    Pet Owners worst nightmare!

Your dog is wearing his tag, you are sure, but still you worry. You sit by the phone and wished there was someting else you could do....... and there is!

PetWatchClub.com - a social networking site for pets and their owners - has added a new tool in the fight to find missing and lost pets: an online "missing pet alert" system that notifies and recruits dozens of local pet owners in the search for missing pets.

The tool is simple to use, free, and effective. By visiting www.PetWatchClub.com and clicking on the "missing pets" icon, owners of missing pets gain access to a form where they can describe their pet, where it was last seen, and provide contact information. A photo of their pet can also be added to the missing pet alert if the owner is a member of PetWatchClub.

Upon submitting their alert application, an email with the missing pet's information is forwarded to all PetWatchClub.com members within a 10 mile radius of the last location the pet was seen. With over 3000 registered PetWatchClub.com members, this often means that dozens of people in a very targeted area are notified. In addition, a web page is created in the missing pets section of the www.PetWatchClub.com website. For up to three weeks, website visitors can view the information and notify the owner if they have any information about the missing pet.

PetWatchClub.com started in September 2006 with the goal of helping pets and their owners find and connect with each other in their local neighborhoods and cities. It's original purpose was to help owners find friendly families to take in their pets when they go on short trips or vacations, rather than send their pet to a kennel or boarding facility.

Members have access to a set of basic, but very effective tools. Members create custom profiles of themselves, their homes, and their pets. The pet profiles include pictures, likes, dislikes, habits and quirks. A search tool allows members to find other members in their local area. Using a simple messaging tool, they can safely reach out and introduce themselves. From that introduction, members can see if there is a "fit" and can then choose to meet up and build a friendship between them and their pets.

The club is free to join and includes many other fun things focused on the pet, like a story board, pet photo album, and more. The introduction of the missing pet alert system is just the latest addition to our exciting and growing online pet community!

This why pettags.com is such a great place where you can get all this great information.  I think a GPS device for pets would be great as it would tell you where it is withing 25 feet on a computer or cell phone.

    Nice huh?

    Yes, that is great too.

My dog currently is wearing a tag and county tag plus she has an implanted chip. People will know, that I want my dog back ......and still having somebody looking for her is an added comfort.

I must say that microchips are a false security since there are 3 types and 3 different readers and the pet, if lost,  needs to be taken to  humane society or a Vets office with the correct reader so tags are still the first line of defense in helping a lost pet until a GPS device comes along with a real long battery life and is also smaller then tose out today unless you have a 135 lb. dog which most pet owners do not.

    Just my opinion.

Thanks, I did not know that there were that many different standarts. Well we still have the tag!

    Re: Pet Owners worst nightmare!

You are correct about there being a few different brands of microchips.  However, your statement that you must find someone that has a reader of the same brand as the chip is not completely accurate.  Most vets and shelters now have what is known as a 'universal' chip reader.  This one scanner can detect and read ANY microchip, regardless of the manufacturer.  Pet owners just need to be certain that they complete and send in the information card OR register online.  Doing so makes sure your information and your pet's information are immediately available to anyone who finds him or her!

I strongly recommend a collar with tags (that is never used to secure your pet, whether on a leash or tie-out.  They are far less likely to break or slip out of a collar that is only used to hold their tags) AND a microchip, just in case, they do lose their collar.

    Re: Pet Owners worst nightmare!

It is true that there are SOME universal readers but a pet needs to be lost in front of a place that has the reader first and most people today will not take a lost pet to a humane society and chips give a false sense that a pet will be found since it is a  bit technical but a Tag is still the best defense for saving a lost pet since even the chip companies give away a tag to let someone know there is a chip, so what does that tell you.

Just thought you would like the truth.  Tags first,  chips second.

     GPS soon . . .

Parvo is a big problem in shelters. We adopted Harley on 5-31-2008 from a shelter in our area, he was 9 weeks old. We took him to our vet last week and he told us to keep him away from all dogs until he is at least 1 yr old, he said Parvo runs very bad in our area. One of our friends had a puppy that started to throw up and have severe problems, i asked him if she had her shots he said "some" but they were not up to date, she passed away a day later. Parvo is one disease that alot of puppies dont survive. I am so glad yours did.  :)

I am so happy your pup pulled through!  I had the same thing happen to my Ali black lab at 9 weeks.  We did everything to keep him alive.  He survived and is the best friend ever!

Hi, I'm new in this site. And I might have put this in a wrong place. But I need your help in regards of my dog Macci. My dog hasn't eaten anything yet since yesterday. I'm afraid that he might die if he will still not eat. I haven't took him to the vet yet cuz I am too busy. More replies means more help. Thanks
