Rocky will not wear a collar..

My cat will not wear a collar. Everytime I try, he get's it stuck in his mouth even if I put it tight. He's an indoor cat but he's been getting out alot lately and I worry about him outside without a collar. I can't leave him alone with a collar on beacause when he get's it stuck it's almost like a horse bridle and goes nuts. Should I just give it up?

Microchipping may be your answer. If Rocky gets his collar stuck on stuff, especially his mouth, I would not advise a collar of any kind.

Oopie used to  wear a breakaway collar for about 60 seconds each time I put it on him.  He was an indoor only cat.  It looked cute on him.  It became a game for him to see how fast he could snap it off and hide it from me.  I would get those kitty eye rolls every time.  He was an alpha kitty.  He ruled the Kitty Kommittee with a velvet paw and a penetrating look.

Sorry.  Not very helpful.  Oopie passed away this past year.  He was 16 years old.  I had raised him from kitten hood.  Your post just made me think of one of the really cute things he used to do.  Thanks for letting me ramble.

Have you tried an H shaped harness or harness jacket? It will take some time for him to get used to. You will need to put it on him for short periods of time when you can watch him in it. I have a cat that will walk on leash. He hated the harness at first but with multiple times a day everyday he learned that when he had it on he got to go walking. Now he can't wait to go. He knows when he sees me with the harness he is going on his walk. This solved the problem with him trying to get out on his own.

Repetition is everything with walking a cat. He needs to go on the exact same route everyday until he learns the rountine. I coax him to walk with a slight tug on the leash and a clicking noise. He knows it means move on now.

The harness is a great idea if you really are going to walk your cat. Sometimes kitties are too timid to be out in "our" world, even if started young. Of course, it depends on the cat!! If you just leave the harness on outside it could get stuck on something as well. Microchipping is easy, painless, effective and inexpensive. And our pets are priceless...

Hi, there is something I thought I would share it with you.I recently found this really cool blog http://uniqueskins.com/blog/2009/04/17/thank-you-brono/. Check out the most recent post, I absolutely love the idea. I made a skin for my cat Freckels today and I can't wait for it!
